General Practitioner Job Requirements

A general practitioner is a general medical practitioner whose job is to deal with diseases which are acute and continuous. They give proper treatment and knowledge to the patients so as to prevent the disease and fight it in future.

They deal with the biological, social as well as the psychological atmosphere of the patients. The can treat in general any organ and not on a particular area. They deal with people of any age group. In certain areas, their job limits to primary health care centers.

In order to be a general practitioner, the following are the education and job requirements.

Education Requirements:

  • General practitioner must have studied mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics as well as anatomy in their undergraduate courses.
  • The candidate must have spent a couple of years on subjects like biochemistry, microbiology. They should have work experience for about a couple of years with professional doctors so as to gain practical knowledge in medicine and general family treatment.
  • The candidate must have a couple of year’s residency of the job and then they have to pass the license test which gives them the certificate to practice.
  • The candidate can pursue another three years of training to be certified by the American Board of Family Medicine which is optional.

Job Requirements:

  • A general practitioner should be quick to understand with the various health problems that a patient comes up with. This comprises of discussing medical history, diagnosis, treatment and proper referring if required.
  • The candidate must be through with the latest technology related to medical science, treatment techniques and the evolving new medicines and drugs.
  • The candidate should be able to follow instructions or give proper instructions when he has to work in a group.
  • They should also be able to talk to patients clearly.

So these are the basic requirements to be a general practitioner.
