Obstetrics Nurse Job Requirements

Obstetrics Nurse is basically employed to help the gynecologists or physicians in taking care of the women during their pregnancy as well as at the time of delivery. These nurses are mostly employed at the delivery department in the hospitals, nursing homes and health clinics. Obstetric nurses need to take care of their patients in every possible manner and help them cope up with both physical and mental stress during childbirth.

These nurses need to follow the instructions given by the doctors and handle the patients accordingly. One is required to undergo certain courses and training programs to become an obstetric nurse and also possess certain skills for getting into this position. Education Requirements

  • A High School Diploma
  • An Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited medical school
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing helps in increasing the chances of getting the opportunity to work in a big and reputed Hospital or Medical Center
  • It is also essential to attend an accredited training program in nursing
  • Candidate aiming to become an obstetric nurse should do the internship in the OB department of a medical center or hospital

Job Requirements

  • Candidate must have good communication skills and the ability to explain the medical procedures to the patients and their family.

  • Candidate should be skilled in taking care of the infants immediately after they are born.
  • Candidate must have complete knowledge about preparing the delivery room properly.
